2017 Retreat for the offices of the church
January 11, 2017
Offices of Somang church including deacons and elders who lead Somang church
attended the Retreat for the offices of the church at 7:30 p.m. in Wednesday Service.
It was -9 degrees Celsius. Despite of the cold weather, 2,000 people gathered.
Among them, there were new deacons who received an education.
Rev. Kang Yeongrong and university department members led the praise and worship.
The hope for the new and holy church of the New Year was led to
the trust and thankfulness to the Lord one worship service after another. The church members confessed
their faith singing 'Lift up your heads, O you gates' 'I am satisfied with the Lord only'
In the previous Sunday worship service, the congregation listened to 'Of Good Powers',
the song of which the lyrics were the confession of the rev. Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Professor Ahn Yonggi from Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary
translated the lyrics and they recited it offering to the Lord as their own confession.
Singing the song, the church members realized again that we can overcome whatever we face
because the Lord always has been protecting us and that's why we can welcome the new day.
"Anywhere, anywhere! Fear I cannot know;
Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go."
They sang hymn #440 and began the retreat.
Elder Yang Seunggwan, vice chairman of the Ecclesiastical Committee, prayed on behalf of all
thanking God for giving the new year and new heart and asked to give the offices
the wisdom and discernment to be faithful and to bear abundant fruits in all the communities in Somang church.
Also he asked God to make the new offices settle in and fill the heart of the people
who gathered there with the Holy Spirit.
"Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!"
The Word of God for the retreat was from Romans 11:33.
They read it together and the senior deaconess committee choir praised God with 'In my heart fully'
The senior pastor Kim Jicheol introduced Rev. Lee Suyeong, resigned senior pastor of Saemunan church
and the congregation welcomed him with warm applause and listened to the sermon titled 'God Driven Life'
These days, we, Christians, are all exposed to fate, fortune and world theories.
The rev. delivered God's message of "the faith in providence of God", which the Bible witnesses.
There are 4 ways that God fulfills His will in our lives;
Allowance, hindrance, decision
If you trust the guidance and providence of God, you wouldn't be anxious
and when things aren't going your way could endure not being discouraged but trusting God
and wait for His will be revealed when unjust things happen in the world.
"Dear church members! don't be afraid for anything. God, our Father will take care for us.
Be peaceful, thankful for everything and live a blessed life."
He emphasized that to be a Christian and live by providence means to trust God,
who will do the bigger good and lead to the wisdom and depend on His power and love
especially when things that you cannot understand happen.
Our lives are led by God and God is always right.
Even when things that you cannot understand happen,
we could be peaceful, trust and follow His will
and it will lead us to overcome the world and live a peaceful life..
At the end of the sermon,
he shared his life story to realize the providence of God.
After the sermon, everyone celebrated the appointment of new deacons/deaconesses.
250 church members who received the orientation in 2016 became new deacons/deaconesses.
The congregation prayed for the offices of the church; To be anointed with the Holy Spirit,
be the one of the Word of God, be the one who worship God first, love God and neighbors, be wise, generous
and brave to begin again when the failure occurs.
To regain the joy of the soul, be filled with gratitude, joy and peace,
have the Lord as the owner of their home and work, and walk with the Lord step by step.
All the people gathered there put their hand on the heart and received the benediction together.
Singing 'We will keep our faith' and standing up in the last verse, they finished the retreat.
"I'm happy to be an office of the church but also I feel responsible. I'll do my best."
"Listening to the sermon, I think about preparation of God.
It was powerful and helpful message and remains in my heart."
He was invited to come to church by his friend and it's good to see that he could settle in.
Women’s missionary 2 gathered to celebrate their members being new deaconesses.
Future of Somang church may be up to these offices' commitment.
May these offices of the church be hands and feet of the Lord and work hard!
