Sunday school Christmas Performance
A couple of days before Christmas, Sunday School 1 presented
Christmas Performance in the Wednesday Service.
Newly again, holy again, may all of Somang church members have
the year of 2017 pleasing and glorifying God!
The worship service began 30 minutes earlier than usual.
But already the chapel was filled with many parents and church members who came to watch the children's performance.
Rev. Lee Seungjae of the young adult department and Sunday school teachers
led the praise and worship celebrating Jesus coming to earth.
In 'The most precious gift – Joy'
while the sand art expressed the good news that God promised,
the children under 30 months old appeared on the stage at the very first.
With a movie clip, the children opened the event singing 'Silent night, Holy night'.
The children became lambs waiting for Jesus coming.
Decorated with the lamb head shaped headband and bells,
they appeared with their parents and praised God.
Singing 'Faith, hope, love' 'Happy day, joyous day' with their children,
the parents made a wonderful performance and received warm applause.
"Happy Birthday, Jesus. Merry Christmas!"
The children from 31 months old to 5 years old
sang the hymn of stars in Act 1, The Promised Good News.
In the rehearsal in the afternoon, the children practiced wearing a black costume.
It didn't look like a practice. Their voices were strong and clear.
"The three wise men, watching a little stranger star, And they knew the King was given!"
They were wearing a lovely huge ribbon and a white star head band.
Teachers stood with the children and became big stars protecting the children
and sang 'The three wise men'
Angels also came out to sing the Good News that God promised.
Mothers and fathers couldn't help expressing their happiness to see the appearance of the angels.
110 of 6 and 7 years old children filled the stage
and sang 'John 3:16' 'It Came Upon A Midnight Clear' and 'Celebrate together'
When the children gathered their hands together like they prayed, swung their body
and sang the hymn, they really looked like angels delivering the News of Peace.
Those lovely angels announced the news of Jesus’ birth in a manger
clapping their hands.
In Act 2, Elementary school department, English Sunday school and Miso school students
delivered joy of the people who heard the joyous news 2,000 years ago.
Lower grades of Elementary school department wore Christmas outfits
and sang 'O, Merry Christmas' as Mary and Joseph.
"O! here it comes again, Merry Christmas! Let's celebrate.
Christ Jesus came to us with love to the world."
The children expressed joy just like Mary and Joseph
when they finally met Jesus 2,000 years ago.
Students of All school ages department and English Sunday school
sang the hymn of Simeon and Anna with a candle worship dance.
Last year, they played shepherds with black light and praised God.
Even though we couldn't see their faces
but the light in the dark made us feel like meeting Jesus.
MISO school students appeared as shepherds.
The first song that they sang was 'spring time in hometown'
which you could think it to be awkward at Christmas.
But all the students of MISO school were from North Korea
and they won the 1st prize with that song in the contest.
That's why they sang it for the Somang church members.
The 2nd song was 'That star' and it made a beautiful harmony with hand bells.
Their teacher made all the props including head scarves and costumes.
Moved, the audience encouraged them with warm applause.
Elementary 3-4 graders sang the three wise men's hymn performing a card section.
They practiced it more than any other students.
It didn't look easy for them to keep the sketch book still, did it?
But only just a couple hours before, in the practice,
you couldn't see their faces and the big picture.
They appeared on the stage and stood on their spots.
What happened during those a couple of hours?
Suddenly we could see the letters and the picture showing.
During the practice, teachers repeatedly told them "well, turn it! Turn it!"
On the stage, they fixed their eyes on the teacher who signed them to turn the page.
"Gloria to the Lord"
To their parents and their teachers, it might look adorable whatever they did.
However, after the hard practice and endurance, they glorified God
with the wonderful performance and their parents and their teachers also were really happy for that.
In Act 3, middle and high schoolers expressed joy of the people
who met Jesus Christ coming to earth.
Among Christians, especially those adolescent showed the best joy
in regard of Jesus coming on the stage.
After 'O, Holy Night' that the choir sang with the splendid chamber orchestra,
the original rap song 'On the day that Jesus came' with the hip hop rhythm began.
"... The world full of sinners, He covered it with the blood of salvation
The weight of the Cross, we cannot imagine.
He endured and gave us the present call heaven. To him, we thank..."
"... Give all to the Lord, cast all your worries and follow him
with faith and hope, follow the Lord's love and live your life with the great love..."
As higher graders of Sunday school 1, they expressed the joy of Christians variously.
Wearing jeans and red t-shirts, they led the atmosphere of the audience singing 'Joy to the world' .
"Empty heart, hopeless world, where is the light of the Lord, silent shouting..."
The last performance in Act 3, 'Our joyful song' was a musical by the elementary school department.
At first they sang the prayer of the people who were waiting for the Lord's coming.
"...Listen carefully, then you can hear ‘The Lord comes’. Open your eyes and turn on the light..."
In the darkness, the news was delivered that Jesus coming was near.
When the people decided to deliver the joy and the glory of the Lord to the world,
the setting opened and angels appeared from the back.
"For us who had been in sin, Jesus came. Let’s praise Him.
Today, it's the birthday of Jesus born in Bethlehem. Let's praise God with joy altogether!"
The senior pastor delivered a brief message from God.
Like the three wise men, if we meet Jesus with an open heart, we can enjoy the true joy.
He made us confess the joy that we felt when meeting Jesus as we live on earth, our love to Jesus and thankfulness remembering the truth, life, hope and blessing in Him.
Remembering that Jesus is our salvation, life and the light of life,
Congregation lit the candle of hope expecting to be the saints that witness the light to the world.
They stood up holding the candle of Hope
and sang '
The performance finished with the benediction of the senior pastor.
Thank you, all serving Sunday school
who made the event to glorify Jesus,
who is the most precious joy to us.
