Northern area missions group at Somang Presbyterian Church aims to spread Gods Word in communist countries such as North Korea, China, Far Eastern Russia and Mongolia. We aim for the places that has not yet heard of God and who does not believe in Gods creation of the earth. We wish for them to realize that it is not humans but God that has sovereignty.
In July 1996 Pastor Kwak Sun Hee and several members of Somang church participated in Korea-China Science Technology and economic exchange forum that was held at the Hall of the People in Beijing in China (there were 400 Korean, 2000 Chinese representatives). In December 1996 through a resolution at the meeting of elders, the Northern areas mission group was launched as part of the Member Fellowship and started to execute ministry in Northern areas. Somang church currently executes ministries in all of China, Far Eastern Russia and Mongolia.
We strive to implement a strategy for Northern area missions to be more professionalized by analyzing in-depth information on the specific areas.
Moreover, we plan to strengthen education and research to enhance missions in Northern areas. Somang Northern area missions group operates University for Unification missions and train missionaries for Northern areas.
The North Korean Ministry is executed in relation to the general meeting of University of Peace and Unification Mission and meetings of Presbyterian churches and through holding general meetings. We wish to strengthen our missions in Northern areas with heartfelt prayers and we encourage participation through praise and volunteer services.
We also try to increase interest in missions in Northern areas by expanding participation of women and young people, visit mission fields in North Korea, China, Russia and Mongolia and pursue effective mission works that is in harmony with the culture of the areas where mission work is taking place.
This way, we aim to expand Gods Kingdom and spread the Word of God in North Korea by encouraging all members of Somang Presbyterian Church to have a vision for mission work in these areas. In particular, we urge for prayer and efforts for peaceful unification of North and South Korea and for the North Korean ministry.
